Summary of Some Birmingham Abuse Documents

Apparently prompted by Sr. Grace Kenning's call
to Sr. Catherine E. Mulkerrin, a review of Birmingham's file was done. This
review confirms that the 1990 Rossman claim
letter led to an out-of-court settlement, and states that after Birmingham
was removed from St. Ann's in Gloucester, he was sent to the Institute for Living
in Hartford. The April 4, 1987 letter
to Cardinal Law is summarized here, but the previous
allegations to Mulcahy and Birmingham's admission to Banks are not mentioned,
though it was those allegations that caused Law to remove Birmingham from Gloucester
(see the date on Birmingham's assignment
record). The end of this file summary reviews the conclusions
reached by the Institute for Living during Birmingham's treatment.
