According to letter dated 3/30/94 below,
Archdiocesan official called Passionist
priest at Mater Dolorosa Retreat Center
to inform him that the Archdiocese had received a sexual molestation
report from the sister of an adult that the adult was abused in 1960
or 1961 by Fr. Vetter. |
12/24/93 |
Ltr to Vicar for
Clergy from alleged victim that he and his younger brother
were sexually abused as minors by Fr. Vetter around 1969, while attending
St. Philomena Church, Carson. |
3/22/94 |
Ltr from Vicar for
Clergy to Provincial for Passionist Priests enclosing letter
from the sister of alleged victim to the Archbishop
saying that the alleged victim was sexually abused during a 2-year
period by Fr. Vetter, in the early 1960s, when the person was in the
fourth grade at Nativity Church, El Monte.
The enclosed letter apparently had no date on it. |
3/30/94 |
Ltr from Local Superior of Mater Dolorosa
Passionist Residence to the Vicar for Clergy,
informing the Vicar that the Passionists became aware on January 6,
1993 of a claim that the same person had been abused as a minor in
1960 or 1961 by Fr. Vetter and that the Archdiocese was aware of this
claim at the same time, namely January 6, 1993. Since then the Passionists
and the alleged victim had engaged in settlement discussions using
legal counsel. In September, 1993 the Passionists offered to pay for
the alleged victim's therapy but needed to confirm with his therapist
that the alleged incident caused his present condition. They had heard
nothing further from the alleged victim since that request. |
9/11/94 |
Letter from an attorney for religious
order in civil personal injury case to his client The Passionist Order
that was shared with the Archdiocese, a co-defendant in a civil case.
Although the letter is privileged, it includes a double hearsay report
from the parents of two adult men that they reported the incident
to two priests at St. Philomena and a bishop
two weeks later. Nothing in the letter indicates that anyone except
the parents of the alleged victims indicated any knowledge of the
incident in or about 1974. |
