Law & Order St. Louis Post-Dispatch [Missouri] October 20, 2006 Former priest is sued, accused of abuse in '70s A former Catholic priest was sued Thursday by a Missouri man accusing him of sexual abuse at Resurrection Parish in St. Louis more than 30 years ago. Donald "Duck" Straub "sexually and physically abused and exploited" the boy on numerous occasions in St. Louis, at Kenrick Seminary in St. Louis County and other places around 1973 and 1974, the suit says. The case, filed in St. Louis Circuit Court, refers to the boy only as John Doe SM. The lawsuit also names the archdiocese and Archbishop Raymond Burke. Church officials knew about the alleged abuse but failed to report it and helped cover it up, the suit says. Straub has been sued four other times in St. Louis. Two of those suits were settled by the archdiocese, and Straub has been dismissed from one of those. The other two are pending. Straub was ordained as a transitional deacon in 1975 and as a priest in 1975, removed from ministry in 1986 and defrocked in 2005, an archdiocese spokesman said. Straub has been accused of abusing children even after undergoing treatment and having been reassigned. Straub could not be reached for comment. |
