	Polish Priest Offered Plea By Julie A. Varughese New Britain Herald December 18, 2004 New Britain — The visiting Polish priest who was arrested two years ago for allegedly sexually assaulting a 17-year-old girl will appear Dec. 21 in New Britain Superior Court to accept or reject a plea bargain offered by the state. Father Roman Kramek, 42, of Sacred Heart Church, 158 Broad St., was arrested Dec. 24, 2002 for allegedly having non-consensual sex with a girl while her grandmother was in the kitchen of an apartment. The details of the plea bargain could not be obtained from the State's Attorney's Office Friday afternoon after Kramek appeared in court that day. According to court records, Kramek came over to the girl's apartment, and was let in by her grandmother. When the girl arrived home in the afternoon of Dec. 18, he sat on the living room couch with her and allegedly asked her about a previous sexual assault she experienced. He then allegedly touched her inappropiately. When the grandmother came back into the living room with coffee, he quickly jumped off the victim's body. After the grandmother left the room, he pulled down his pants and her pants and alleged raped her for a period of three minutes. According to the victim's statement in the affidavit, she felt that he was nervous because a lot of noise was coming from the second-floor, which she feels prompted him to not rape her for long. Before leaving the apartment, he allegedly asked her if he could come back to the apartment when her grandmother was not around and she consented. When he left, she informed her grandmother. The next day at school, the victim alerted a social worker of what allegedly happened to her, and New Britain police were then informed. Kramek could face at least 10 years in prison, one year of which he must serve. He has been out of police custody since January 2003 when he posted $500,000 bond. The Polish community had spearheaded a fund to help the visiting priest from Poland get out of jail.
