No Jail for Priest in Sex Case Chicago Tribune November 9, 2000 A priest was placed on 18 months of probation after pleading no contest to fourth-degree sexual assault of a teenage boy. Rev. John O'Brien entered the plea Tuesday in Fond du Lac County Circuit Court. Judge Henry Buslee also fined him $1,000 and ordered him to undergo psychiatric counseling. The criminal complaint said O'Brien ordered the youth, then 17, to undress in his rectory bedroom last May and the priest then touched the boy's genitals. The boy told investigators he initially began meeting with O'Brien in November 1999 to discuss problems he was having after being involved in a motor vehicle-bicycle accident, the complaint said. The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Milwaukee said O'Brien has stepped down after nine years as a priest at the Church of Presentation in North Fond du Lac. |
