  4 to Be Ordained As Priests Saturday

Four men will be ordained to the priesthood on Saturday by the Bishop Sean P. O'Malley.

The four will be ordained at an 11 a.m. Mass in St. Mary's Cathedral, Spring Street, Fall River. They will serve in the Diocese of Fall River.

They are: the Rev. Paul C. Fedak, the Rev. Hernando Herrera, the Rev. Edward A. Murphy and the Rev. John M. Murray.

Father Fedak, a Connecticut native, is the son of Lucas and Lois Fedak of Palm City, Fla.

He graduated from Salve Regina University and pursued theological studies from 1993 to 1998 at St. John Seminary, Brighton.

During his seminary years, he served educational assignments at the Pine Street Inn, Boston; St. Athanasius parish, Reading; St. William parish, Fall River; Corpus Christi parish, East Sandwich; and St. Pius X parish, South Yarmouth. He also assisted in hospital ministry at Norwood Hospital.

He was ordained a transitional deacon by Bishop O'Malley in January at St. Mary's Cathedral. He served his diaconal assignment at St. Michael parish, Swansea, where he will celebrate his first Mass on Sunday at 11 a.m.

Father Herrera is the son of Hector and Cecilia Herrera of Washington, D.C. He graduated from the University of Virginia and received a master's degree in clinical child psychology from Pennsylvania State University in 1991.

He studied theology from 1993 to 1998 at St. John Seminary, Brighton. He served educational assignments at St. Ann parish, Raynham; the dioecesan Office of AIDS Ministry, Fall River; the religious education program at St. Ann's parish, Somerset; Our Lady of Guadalupe parish, New Bedford; the Family AIDS Project, Dorchester; and at St. Mary Cathedral parish, Fall River.

He was ordained a transitional deacon by Bishop O'Malley in January. Father Herrera will celebrate his first Mass, in English and Spanish, at 11 a.m. Sunday at St. Mary's Cathedral.

Father Murphy, a native of Cork, Ireland, is the son of the late Edward and Maureen Murphy. He graduated from Cork Regional Technical College in 1977. He has worked as a chemist in the Bahamas, Puerto Rico, Mexico and Brazil and, in this country, in research and development in Philadelphia.

His pre-theology studies were at St. Charles Seminary, Philadelphia. He continued preparation for the priesthood at St. Charles and at Holy Apostles Seminary in Cromwell, Conn. He educational assignments were at the Community College of Philadephia, St. Patrick and Holy Name parishes in Fall River, and in prison and hospital ministries and social services.

He was ordained a transitional deacon last spring by Bishop O'Malley in St. Anthony of Padua Church, New Bedford. His diaconal assignment was at Holy Name parish, Fall River, where he will celebrate his first Mass at noon Sunday. He plans to return to his home town of Cork in Ireland to celebrate Mass on June 21.

Father Murray was born in Brockton, the son of Carol Murray and Michael E. Murray, a permanent deacon at Our Lady of Immaculate Conception Church, Taunton.

A 1990 graduate of Coyle-Cassidy High School, Taunton, he did undergraduate study at St. John Seminary, Brighton, from 1994 to 1998. His educational assignments included teaching religious education at Immaculate Conception parish, Cambridge and St. Paul parish, Wellesley; the Office of Evangelization, St. Michael parish, Swansea; St. Mary parish, Nantucket; Mount Auburn Hospital, Cambridge; and Notre Dame parish, Fall River.

He was ordained a transitional deacon in January by Bishop O'Malley and has served since then at St. Patrick parish, Wareham. He will celebrate his first Mass at 3 p.m. Sunday at St. Ann's Church, Raynham.

Concelebrating with Bishop O'Malley on Saturday at the Ordination Liturgy will be many priests from the Fall River Diocese along with visiting clergy who have been involved in the formation of those being ordained.

Servers for the Mass will be seminarians of the diocese. The Fall River Diocesan Choir, under the direction of organist Madeleine Grace, will provide music. Michele Burdick will be the cantor.
