  Father Richard Grady; Retired Pastor Served Several Churches

The Rev. Richard J. Grady, a retired Catholic priest who was a pastor at churches throughout the state, died Thursday at Bridgeport Hospital. He was 73.

A Hartford native, Father Grady was ordained in 1947 at St. Joseph's Cathedral in Hartford. He served at St. Joseph's Church in Chester, St. Mary's Church in Norwich and St. Mary's Church in Stamford. He also was pastor of St. Joseph's Church, Bridgeport, and St. Leo's Church, Stamford, and served as chaplain at St. Vincent's Hospital, Bridgeport.

Before retiring in 1987, he had been pastor of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, Bridgeport, and director of Catholic Charities for the Bridgeport Diocese.

Father Grady lived at St. Joseph's Manor in Trumbull since his retirement.

He attended St. Thomas Seminary, Hartford, and St. Bernard's Seminary, Rochester, N.Y.

He leaves a sister, Laura Smith of West Hartford.

His body will lie in state in Our Lady of Good Counsel Church Sunday from 3 p.m. until after the Parish Mass at 6:30 p.m. The Mass will be celebrated by the pastor, the Rev. Martin Nikodem, with the Rev. Philip T. Morrissey, retired pastor of Assumption Church, Westport, delivering the homily. A solemn Pontifical Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday. Burial will be in St. Michael's Cemetery, Stratford.

The Frank Polke & Son Funeral Home, Bridgeport, is handling arrangements.
