Rev. Larry Reuter, S.J., an Oak Park resident who served as vice president of mission and ministry at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, was recently removed from that position and from active ministry by the Jesuit Order after admitting to an inappropriate relationship with a young adult, seemingly several years ago.

Reuter had been a regular presence saying Mass at Ascension Church in Oak Park for a number of years. His departure from that role was announced early this spring though without explanation. A letter of explanation from the Midwest Jesuit provincial was included in the Ascension church bulletin this Sunday. There have been no suggestions of inappropriate behavior during Reuter's tenure at the local parish.

Reuter served as president of Loyola Academy, a Jesuit college prep school in Wilmette, from 1975 to 1990. The "inappropriate relationship" allegedly took place with an 18-year-old student during that time frame, the Chicago Tribune reported Monday.
