	Another Suit Alleges Sexual Misconduct at Dunrovin in Marine By Peter Cox Stillwater Gazette September 24, 2009 http://www.stillwatergazette.com/articles/2009/09/24/news/news230.txt Another lawsuit alleging sexual abuse that occurred decades ago on the grounds of Dunrovin Christian Brothers Retreat Center in Marine on St. Croix. The suit, filed on behalf of John Doe 131 in Ramsey County District Court, was filed against Christian Brothers of Minnesota and other associated Christian Brothers organizations. The suit alleges fraud, saying that Christian Brothers learned in 1966 that Brother Raimond Rose had sexually abused a male student at De La Salle, yet still allowed him to teach at Christian Brothers institutions from 1968 to 1974, "In approximately 1973, when the plaintiff was approximately 18 years of age, Bro. Rose sexually assaulted plaintiff without plaintiff's consent by forcefully touching plaintiff genitals while plaintiff was sleeping," the complaint says. The alleged incident, it continues, happened at Dunrovin. The complaint says the defendant did not discover or have any reason to believe he'd been defrauded until 2009. The suit seeks unspecified damages. Bob Schwiderski, Minnesota director of the Survivors Network of Those Abused by Priests, says he would like the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis to get involved. The Archdiocese is not a part of the lawsuit, but Schwiderski says could send a powerful message to those who are. Schwiderski says Rose, now in his later 70s, is still a threat. "Raimond Rose is living across the street from a boys school and he's a danger, so we have asked the Archdiocese to be responsible and put Raimond Rose into a treatment facility so he is no longer a danger," he said. This is the second suit this year alleging wrongdoing by Rose at the Dunrovin retreat center. In May the order issued a statement condemning child abuse and saying Rose, 76, has not been in active ministry or had contact with minors since 2002. "It has been the long-standing mission of the De La Salle Christian Brothers of the Midwest to serve and empower God's people and one another through the educational mission of the Catholic Church. Thus, given who we are, the abuse of any child is an affront to our mission and purpose, and we do not and will not tolerate such abuse," wrote Brother Francis Carr. The suit filed in June accuses Rose of sexually abusing a then-teenaged boy in the early 1970s while the two were staying at Dunrovin. According to that complaint, Rose "engaged in unpermitted, harmful and offensive sexual contact" with the former student in 1973 or 1974, when he would have been 16 or 17 years old.In 2003, Rose was accused of abusing a student in California while teaching at a school there in 1982; that suit was settled in 2004 for $1.1 million.
