SNAP Gives "Mea Culpa" in Br. Rose Case Fox 11 September 3, 2009 http://www.fox11online.com/dpp/news/local_wluk_appleton_snap_brother_rose_200909031028_rev1
APPLETON - A priest abuse survivors group admits it made a mistake in claiming a Catholic brother once taught at Xavier High School in Appleton. On Monday, the Survivors Network of Those Abused by Priests said Br. Raimond Rose, who has been named in a civil suit in Minnesota alleging child molestation, worked at Xavier between 1966 and 1968. However, the next day, leaders of the Catholic Diocese of Green Bay and the Appleton Catholic Education System/Xavier said they had no record of Rose ever working in Appleton. Later Tuesday, SNAP told FOX 11 it had newspaper accounts of a “Brother Raimond” involved with Xavier activities at the time. However, on Wednesday, SNAP admitted an error, realizing there was another Brother Raimond at Xavier at the time. SNAP released a copy of this letter addressed to diocese leaders: September 2, 2009 Deacon Timothy Reilly, Thank you for your assistance in clarifying there were two “Br. Raimond” Christian Brothers teaching in Wisconsin during the concerning time frame. The tremendous support you and the Xavier officials provided in exposing my mistake strengthens my belief we will continue to work well together in the cause of recovery from and prevention of sexual abuse. As I mentioned when we met on Monday, I was honored you and Renae were at Xavier to greet me and join in the public outreach actions and efforts to those sexually abused by “Br. Raimond Rose” in Wisconsin. Your expressed concern for those injured by clergy sexual abuse was inspirational. I am sorry the same name confusion caused us to meet on such a beautiful day. I do however look forward to the next time our paths and tasks meet. Sincerely, Bob Schwiderski |
