Naugatuck Priest Acquitted of Sex Charges Republican-American January 16, 2009 http://www.rep-am.com/articles/2009/01/16/news/doc4970cf055c7c6176532634.txt WATERBURY -- The Rev. Robert J. Grant's shoulders sagged slightly in what seemed to be relief when the words "not guilty" were read Friday in Waterbury Superior Court. Grant, a 65-year-old Roman Catholic priest, was cleared of all criminal charges, including second-degree sexual assault. The priest of two Naugatuck churches, St. Mary's and St. Hedwig's, was charged with sexual assault after a teenager said he performed oral sex on Grant. A spokesman for the Archdiocese of Hartford said Friday Grant's acquittal on all charges would factor favorably in its decision on whether to return him to his church duties. |
