After Jail, Priest Will Live in Monitored Facility Post-Dispatch [St. Louis MO] August 23, 2006 http://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/news/stories.nsf/metroeast/story/45F4D227C93D0617862 571D300142E7B?OpenDocument&highlight=2%2C%22survivors%22+AND+%22network%22 St. Louis archdiocesan officials said in a statement Tuesday that when the Rev. Bryan Kuchar, 40, is released from jail next week, he "will take up residence in a monitored environment at a facility located outside of the immediate St. Louis metropolitan area." A spokesman said he didn't know the name of the facility. In 2003, a jury found Kuchar guilty of molesting a 14-year-old boy in 1995, while the priest was serving at Assumption Catholic Church in south St. Louis County. Kuchar will finish three consecutive one-year terms in St. Louis County jail next Wednesday. The archdiocese said that while it "will make provision for (his) residence, Kuchar will receive no salary or stipend from the archdiocese." The archdiocese said it asked the Vatican to laicize, or defrock, Kuchar in May 2004 but has yet to hear from Rome on the case. Kuchar has been fighting his proposed laicization. At a news conference outside archdiocesan headquarters Tuesday, members of the Survivors Network of Those Abused by Priests stuffed envelopes addressed to members of Assumption parish with letters asking members with any new information about Kuchar to come forward. |
