SHANDON, Ohio - Cincinnati Archbishop Daniel Pilarczyk plans to address parishioners at St. Aloysius Catholic Church today concerning allegations of sexual misconduct involving church pastor the Rev. David F. Reilly.

Reilly was placed on administrative leave Thursday by the Cincinnati Archdiocese as a result of a report that he engaged in inappropriate behavior with "sexual overtones" with a minor in the 1970s.

Archdiocese spokesman Dan Andriacco said the administrative leave is the strongest step a bishop can take on his own.

"A priest on administrative leave may not celebrate the sacraments, engage in priestly ministry or present himself as a priest in any way," Andriacco said.

A man reported to the archdiocese that Reilly engaged in inappropriate contact with him when the complainant was 13-or 14-years-old, while Reilly was associate pastor of Our Mother of Sorrows parish in Roselawn, Andriacco said.

"Reilly acknowledged contact with the minor, but indicated that his actions were not what they are alleged to be," Andriacco said.

There have been no other accusations of sexual misconduct against Reilly.

An inquiry by a private investigator retained by the archdiocese will continue.

Meanwhile, Pilarczyk is scheduled to address St. Aloysius parishioners at 4:30 p.m. Mass today, while Bishop Carl Moeddel will address parishioners at 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. Masses on Sunday.

Andriacco said a temporary administrator will be assigned to pastoral duties at St. Aloysius pending completion of the investigation.

Reilly, 63, was ordained in 1975 and assigned to Our Mother of Sorrows.

In 1978, he became associate pastor at St. Mary Parish in Oxford, and chaplain at Jewish Hospital, assisting at Children's, Holmes and Deaconess hospitals, in 1980.

In 1983, he returned to Our Mother of Sorrows as an associate, while remaining a chaplain at Jewish Hospital. From 1986 to 1996, he was a chaplain in the U.S. Navy and then the U.S. Air Force, with the exception of a six-month period in 1990-1991 when he served as associate pastor of St. Teresa of Avila in Price Hill.

In 1996, he became pastor of St. Bonaventure Parish in South Fairmount. He became pastor of St. Aloysius in 2000.

The archdiocese is asking anyone who may be, or who knows about a victim of child abuse involving a priest or any other representative of the church, to report the abuse to local law enforcement and to the archdiocese's Victim Assistance Coordinator, Sister Mary Garke, at (513) 421-3131 or 1 (800) 686-2724.
