Church Hopes Priest's Jailing Helps Victims
August 8, 2006
The Anglican Church says it hopes the jailing of a former Adelaide priest for sex abuse will help the healing process for his victims.
Raymond Ayles, 61, has been sentenced to four years in prison for abusing a 14-year-old altar boy.
Archbishop Jeffrey Driver says the diocese is continuing to work to regain the trust of the community.
"We are talking about events that happened 30 years ago," Archbishop Driver said.
"But I do accept that we have to establish in the eyes of the community the sort of confidence and integrity that means they have the assurance that what we do amongst the young in particular is something they can trust."
