Kingston - Parents and human rights activists demonstrated outside a Jamaican evangelical church, accusing it of trying to cover up the alleged gang rape of a 13-year-old girl while she was riding in the deacon's van.

Carrying signs reading "Tell It, Don't Hide It" and "Don't Abuse Our Children," about 50 protesters rallied on Monday outside the gates of the Dayton Avenue Church of God in a middle-class Kingston neighborhood.

Police have detained the deacon and three teenage boys for questioning since Thursday in the alleged rape, which police said happened as the deacon gave several students a ride home.

On Friday, police raided the deacon's home, where they said they seized a video of the rape.

Authorities say the assault happened in February, and critics have accused the church of trying to keep the case quiet.
