(AGI) - Vatican City, May 19 - 'Taking account both of the advanced age of reverend father Marcial Maciel Degollado as well as his poor health, the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, under the leadership of new prefect, Cardinal William Levada, has decided to 'give up on a canonical trial and ask the father to spend his life in prayer and penitence, renouncing all public ministries'. And Pope Ratzinger 'has approved this decision made public today by the Holy See's press office, with a declaration taking account of the validity of the works founded by him. 'Independently of the person of the Founder we recognise with gratitude the apostolic merit of the Legionaries of Christ and the Regnum Christi Associations'.
