Minister to Stand Trial in Sex Case Rocky Mountain News April 25, 2006 http://www.rockymountainnews.com/drmn/local/article/ 0,1299,DRMN_15_4649244,00.html A Denver minister charged with having a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old girl who was in the church choir waived his right to a preliminary hearing Tuesday and was bound over for trial. The Rev. Michael Peters, 36, was charged in February with sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust and as a pattern of abuse. He will be arraigned July 6 in Denver District Court. The victim told police that the relationship began in 2003 after Peters, a pastor at the 2nd Baptist Church in Boulder, began counseling her in connection with an earlier sexual assault. She said she was sexually assaulted after spending the night on a couch at Peters' home after babysitting. Peters served as youth minister and choir director. He is free on $100,000 bond. |
