Former Lanphier High School baseball coach and security guard Jeffrey A. Borski was charged in Sangamon County Thursday with two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse and two counts of indecent solicitation of a child.

Borski, 36, has arranged through his attorney to surrender to authorities, said Sangamon County State's Attorney John Schmidt. His bond has been set at $50,000, and a date for his first court appearance will be set later, Schmidt said.

The incident involves a 16-year-old girl - a Lanphier student - and is alleged to have occurred on Oct. 5, said assistant state's attorney Sheryl Essenburg.

Borski was placed on administrative leave shortly after the alleged incident and resigned his school district jobs for undisclosed reasons Jan. 26. He also was suspended from his job as a part-time Petersburg police officer last fall.

The crimes are Class 2 felonies punishable by three to seven years in prison should he be convicted. Probation also is a sentencing option.

The charges against Borski allege that as a high school security officer, he was in a position of authority over the girl and that he rubbed himself against her and committed other acts for the purpose of sexual gratification. He also is accused of soliciting the girl to perform a sex act.

The complaints make no allegations that Borski employed force.

Schmidt commended the work of the Illinois State Police, who investigated the case.

Borski was named Lanphier's head baseball coach in July 2002. As a baseball player at the former Griffin High School, he was Most Valuable Player in the 1987 Class AA State Baseball Tournament, which Griffin won.

Borski, who played baseball for several colleges, was selected by the Seattle Mariners in the 10th round of the June 1991 draft. He played in the Mariners' farm system until Seattle released him during the spring of 1994. He was pitching coach for the Springfield Capitals of the independent Frontier League in 2001.

He also was an assistant baseball coach for three years at Lanphier before being named head coach. He served as an assistant coach at Sacred Heart-Griffin from 1996-98.
