Mother of Alleged Victim Testifies against Lebrun
Trial Begins for Priest Accused of Molestation

WNDU [Mesa AZ]
November 1, 2005

The mother of two alleged molestation victims says she surprised Father Paul LeBrun while he allegedly "checked one of the boys for a hernia."

The woman testified in the on-going trial of the priest, who used to serve at South Bend's Little Flower Church.

LeBrun is on trial in Arizona for alleged sex crimes and child molestation charges.

The woman testified that she came into a room where LeBrun and one of her two sons were. She says she told officials of the Holy Cross order back in 1986 of her suspicions about Father LeBrun.

She described a situation she witnessed.

"LeBrun is kneeling next to him, and I say, 'What's going on here?'. And with that, LeBrun jumps up in the air and he literally flies about two or three feet backwards. He says, as he is in flight, "*** wanted me to check him for a hernia'."

Two other men from the South Bend area, who claim to be victims of LeBrun, have already testified against him.

The LeBrun trial is scheduled through Thursday in Mesa, Arizona.

If convicted, LeBrun could spend the rest of his life in prison.

Indiana State Police investigated any possible wrongdoing while LeBrun served in Michiana but because of the statute of limitations, Indiana charges were never filed.
