  Catholic Diocese Starts New Program

WLBZ [Maine]
June 14, 2005

The diocese will start the program "Child Lures Prevention" in the fall. It's designed to show parents and children how to protect minors from sexual abuse.

The program is part of the "Protecting God's Children" program. That program was designed after the church's sex abuse scandal.

Members of parishes around the state are now viewing a video that will be used as part of the program. They will then take what they've learned back to their parishes and teach others how to stay safe. The lessons will also be part of the curicculum at Maine's Catholic churches.

Members of Voice of the Faithful, a support group for people abused by priests, are pleased with the new program. But they hope the diocese will continue to offer counseling for victims as well as continue to talk about the past sexual abuse cases.
