ROCKVILLE CENTRE - Aware of the ongoing need for healing in the Catholic Church, Bishop William Murphy is asking members of the Diocese of Rockville Centre to participate in nine days of prayer leading up to the Feast of Pentecost on Sunday, May 30.

"Everyone in the Church has shared on some level in the sufferings caused by the sexual abuse crisis" said Bishop Murphy and he hopes this novena to the Holy Spirit will be a time when people can experience God’s mercy and healing.

On Friday, May 21 all Catholics on Long Island are encouraged to observe a Day of Repentance and Prayer through individual acts of penance, fasting, charity and prayer. Masses during the nine-day period will also feature prayer intentions for survivors and all those wounded by sexual abuse as well as for healing and reconciliation in the Church.

Bishop Murphy will participate in two special services connected to the novena. The first will be at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. May 24 at St. Agnes Cathedral here in Rockville Centre and the other will be at St. John the Evangelist Church in Riverhead at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 26.
