Lack of Progress Delays Abuse Settlement Session

By Eric Convey

A meeting set for today so lawyers involved in clergy molestation cases could brief Superior Court Judge Constance M. Sweeney on the progress of settlement talks has been postponed at least until August.

The reason for the delay, according to one would-be participant, was that not enough progress had been made to warrant the closed-door session.

Just how much headway has been made in the 500 cases alleging abuse by priests of the Archdiocese of Boston remains unclear.

In separate court proceedings scheduled for today, a judge will be asked to approve a deal between an unidentified North Shore man and the Danvers YMCA.

The man sued the YMCA alleging it failed to adequately supervise Christopher Reardon, who has admitted to molesting boys there and at St. Agnes Church in Middleton.
