Doctor Paul Duckro is the Director of the Office for Child, Adolescent and Adult Protection for the Tucson Diocese.

A psychologist by profession, he says his priority in his new job is to investigate allegations of sexual abuse in the church, and to help the Tucson Diocese move forward from its' painful past.

Doctor Duckro is the point of contact for those allegedly sexually abused.

He takes the information from the person making the sexual abuse allegation, reviews church files, and talks to other church collegues who've been with the Tucson Diocese for a while.

Duckro then presents the case to the church's sexual misconduct review board, which consists of lay persons, clerics and others, who then work with the Bishop to make a decision on possible disciplinary action for the person accused.

He says, "That can range, depending on the nature of the allegation or crime that has been committed, that can range from therapy to dismissal and everything in between."

Dr. Duckro says the guidelines and policies he follows are a direct result of the bishop's conference on sexual abuse held in Dallas last year.

Screening and background check guidelines for those hired by the Diocese and a new director of human resources are expected to be in place this summer, to help circumvent future cases of sexual abuse in the church.
