MANCHESTER, N.H. -- New Hampshire Bishop John McCormack is to be questioned Wednesday by lawyers representing 54 men who say they were sexually abused as children by a priest.

McCormack's lawyer says the bishop is expected to be questioned Wednesday and Friday in the lawsuit involving the late Rev. Joseph Birmingham.

The suit says Birmingham abused the men when he served in four Massachusetts parishes from the 1960s to the 1980s.

McCormack was Boston Cardinal Bernard Law's top aide from 1984 to 1994 and served with Birmingham at St. James Parish in Salem, Mass., in the 1960s. Birmingham became pastor of a Gloucester, Mass., parish in 1985.

McCormack has said he had no suspicion Birmingham was molesting children.
