Dick Ryan's timing is on the money ["Diocese Money Appeal Doesn't Merit Support," Viewpoints, Jan. 14].

Now is the time for Catholics to realize that they are responsible for how their charitable contributions are spent. They have a right to know how much of their money is used by the bishop to help the poor. What's the percentage? Local parishes provide annual financial reports.

Now is the time for dioceses to do the same. If we know where the money is going, it will be well spent.
