Abuse Charge Ruled Credible By Cathleen Falsani Chicago Sun-Times January 14, 2003 The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Chicago has ruled another allegation of sexual abuse against a priest removed for ministry in 1996 is credible, the alleged victim told reporters Monday. Donald Robinson said the Rev. James Hagan abused him in the '70s while he was a student at St. Catherine-St. Lucy parish in Oak Park. Because of charges of sexual misconduct with minors, Hagan was removed from his position as pastor of St. Denis on the Southwest Side in 1996 by the late Cardinal Joseph Bernardin and resigned from the priesthood in 1997. No further action will be taken against Hagan by the archdiocese because he is no longer a priest. Robinson has asked Cardinal Francis George to visit each of the parishes Hagan served and ask for victims to come forward. He also wants the archdiocese to produce a list of all priests against whom there are allegations of abuse. A spokesman said the archdiocese has no plans to offer such a list. |
