Priest Posts Bond after Turning Self in By Gloria Padilla The Express-News February 4, 1994 A priest indicted on charges of sexual assault of a child and indecency with a child surrendered himself at a satellite booking office Thursday at the Bexar County Justice Center and was released after posting bond. The Rev. Carlos Lozano, 37, was in the Justice Center for about two hours while the paperwork on his arrest and bond were processed. Lozano is charged with one count of sexual assault and three charges of indecency. Bond on each case was set at $10,000. An application for a personal recognizance bond was denied by District Judge Mike Machado, in whose court Lozano is to be tried. Lozano was released after posting a 10 percent cash bond. A warrant for Lozano's arrest was issued Wednesday after a Bexar County grand jury issued the indictment. Lozano has been on administrative leave from his job at St. Anthony's High School Seminary at 3200 McCullough Ave. since Dec. 17 when four students, ages 16 and 17, told police a spiritual adviser at the school had fondled their genitals on several occasions during the past year. One of the youths reported having oral sex with the priest, reports noted. St. Anthony's is a preparatory school for boys considering vocations to the priesthood or religious life. Lozano, a native of Kingsville, was ordained last year. He had been at the school two years. Before his ordination, he served as a dormitory proctor, taught computer science and had been in charge of music, school officials said.priests crime crimes assaults sex |
